A must-read
This is a particularly interesting look at Canada’s House of Commons, and how it has essentially become obsolete in today’s political world.
In the tenth grade I visited Ottawa as part of Encounters with Canada, and I remember my excitement when I returned home, telling my dad how clearly I could see Prime Minister Paul Martin from the visitors’ gallery above (I may have said he sweat like a pig. Farm girl!). I don’t remember, but perhaps at the time the House was half-empty. I was the nerdy girl with blinders on.
In any case, how discouraging to be a kid on a field trip to Parliament Hill, these days.
The House of Commons is a sham, Aaron Wherry in Maclean’s.
